Top 10 Tips to Keeping Those Ends Nice
1. Easy on Shampooing
If my hair is product free, I wash only my scalp and let the water run the shampoo over the rest of it. It doesn't need a scrubbing if there isn't any product. The more heavily you scrub the hair, the more oil and moisture that is lost. I condition only from the ears down. The hair close to your scalp is still fresh and new and doesn't need as much conditioning. By skipping the top during the conditioning process, I can go an extra day before washing my hair.
2. Optical Illusions
Bend the ends under to create the illusion of perfect ends when in need of a trim.
3. Use a Good Leave-In or Shine Spray
If your hair is thick, heavy, and curly, you will probably need a strong product with a strong application. Leave-ins that are in balm or cream form is what you want. I recommend Matrix's Sleek Looks line for this hair type. For a spray form of intense shine, use Regis's Shine Spray. It's strong and cheap.
For finer hair types, I will recommend a spray. A pump will emit droplets of products, preventing you from getting too much in one place.
Kenra's Shine Spray has the finest mist I've ever seen, and it smells like cotton candy.
Redken's Antisnap is a sprayless cream, but it's incredibly light.
Big Sexy's Soy Tri-Wheat is my favorite leave-in conditioner and detangler.
And for all, apply while wet for a more equal distribution. Plus, I think they all smell wonderful.
4. Fingercomb
(not to be confused with fingerwave)
Comb you fingers through your hair as you condition. Let this be the longest process during your shower if need be. If you just glob a lot of conditioner into your hands, because you're too lazy to do this,it's like putting too much ranch on a salad, just because you don't feel like mixing it properly. Wasteful! By fingercombing through your tresses, you are equally distributing conditioner to hair that wouldn't normally be touched by it with just a couple squeezes of the hair. This will also allow for much easier combing afterwards, which is when most people get frustrated with combing their hair and are rougher with the brush than they should be.
5. Yes, Get a Trim
Cutting hair does not make it grows faster. It will grow in cycles no matter how you style or shape it, but trimming ends merely prevents splits from traveling further up your strands. By trimming ends above the split, you are preventing this thinning event from traveling deeper in your locks.
6. Be Easy with the Brush and Hair Bands
Start from the bottom and work your way up, like your mother said. Section off tresses and work on smaller sections at a time.
Be easy on restricting hair bands especially ones with metal pieces, and don't let your hair dry within a tight band. As hair dries, it expands, and a tight band will snap hair as it's evaporating it's moisture and swelling under the constricting elastic.
7. Skip a Shampoo
If your not going out, don't wash your hair! Your only stripping your hair of its natural oils every time that you lather. Personally, I use talc powder in my hair to soak up the grease on the top of my head and near my part. This gives the appearance of freshly washed hair. It becomes fluffy again. Baby powder can also be used for this but shows up more in dark hair.
8. Easy on the Hot Tools
The ends get the tool the most. Make sure hair is perfectly combed before using your curling iron or straightener. This will make sure that the hot platting touches every possible hair the first time around, making the desired style more effective with less overuse of heat. Using a heat protectant is a good investment for avid iron uses.
9. Keep Your Insides Nourished
A good diet and well hydrated body will produce the similar hair. The only way your hair grows is by getting nutrients from your blood.
10. Patience
Wait for it to grow. Most of the time someone is recovering from a color mishap. Hair only grows 1/4 to 1/2 inch a month. Implement these tips and wait for results. Do tests on your own hair with different products and conditioners. All hair is different, but it all takes a long time to grow.

Tip of the Day
Use hair spray or thermal styler BEFORE you apply your hot tool. Read why a thermal styler is much better for your hair. Your curl will be more prominent and it will last longer.Evenly apply hair spray and let it dry! If you apply a hot iron to wet hair spray, it can turn into white flakes that look like dandruff. Comb through after spray to more evenly disperse product and separate hair for ironing.
